
In the previous test, I measured all 30 packs from a Japanese Mega Symphonia booster box and compared pack weight with SR, AR, RR, and R results.
This time, I returned to The Glory of Team Rocket for a second pack-weight test.
I previously measured another booster box from the same Japanese set, but this new test uses a completely different unopened box that I purchased myself.
For this experiment, I weighed all 30 five-card packs individually to the nearest 0.01g, then opened every pack and recorded the relationship between pack weight and SR, AR, RR, and R cards.
The result was particularly interesting because the overall weight distribution was noticeably different from my first test.
In this booster box:
SR was found at 8.64g.
AR cards were mainly concentrated toward the heavier end of the range.
RR cards were mostly found between approximately 8.59g and 8.64g.
However, SR, AR, and RR results overlapped heavily around 8.63g–8.64g.
The entire booster box ranged from 8.53g to 8.66g.
In my first test of the same product, the SAR appeared at 8.68g and an AR reached 8.73g.
This time, the heaviest pack in the entire box was only 8.66g.
Therefore:
Even within the same Japanese product, the overall pack-weight distribution can change between booster boxes, and pack weight alone cannot accurately identify card rarity.
This article documents a second test of the same product to see whether the weight patterns observed previously could be reproduced.
It is not intended to encourage weighing packs in stores, selecting packs by weight before purchase, or selling packs that have been sorted by weight.
Pack weight may be affected by the foil wrapper, surface treatments, printing, card cutting, manufacturing variation, humidity, the measuring environment, and scale accuracy.
The measurements shown here apply only to this specific booster box.
They should not be treated as universal standards for other booster boxes, production batches, or loose packs.
Test Conditions
The test was conducted under the following conditions.
- Product: Japanese The Glory of Team Rocket expansion
- Purchase format: unopened booster box
- Number of packs measured: 30
- Cards per pack: 5
- Every pack was weighed while sealed
- Measurement precision: 0.01g
- Location: normal indoor environment
- All 30 packs were opened after weighing
- SR, AR, RR, and R results were recorded
The measured weight of a sealed booster pack includes both the cards and the outer foil wrapper.
Even cards of the same rarity may differ slightly in weight because of printing coverage, surface treatment, cutting, and other manufacturing differences.
For this reason, the measurements below should be viewed as relative data comparing the 30 packs within this specific booster box, not as absolute rarity thresholds.
Pack Weight Results From All 30 Packs
The 30 packs measured in this booster box ranged from:
Measured range: 8.53g–8.66g
Difference between lightest and heaviest pack: 0.13g

In this booster box, the SR appeared at 8.64g.
AR and RR cards were also frequently found among the relatively heavier packs.
However, their weight ranges overlapped substantially.
Around 8.63g–8.64g, SR, AR, and RR results appeared within very similar measurements.
This means that even when two packs were almost identical in weight, their opening results could still be different.
What the Measurements Showed
The main findings from this second booster box were:
- The overall pack-weight range was 8.53g–8.66g
- The SR appeared at 8.64g
- Several AR cards appeared at approximately 8.62g or above
- RR cards were mainly found around 8.59g–8.64g
- R cards were distributed mainly from the lighter end through the middle of the range
- SR, AR, and RR weight ranges were not clearly separated
- The overall weight range was different from my first test of the same product
The higher-rarity cards in this box tended to appear toward the heavier side.
However, there was no simple pattern where increasing pack weight consistently corresponded to increasing rarity.
SR Pack Weight
The SR found in this booster box came from a pack weighing 8.64g.
This was toward the heavier end of the 30-pack distribution.
However, other rarities were also found around the same weight.
RR and AR cards appeared very close to 8.64g, meaning this measurement was not unique to the SR.
The only conclusion supported by this test is:
In this booster box, the SR was found in an 8.64g pack.
This does not mean that an 8.64g pack will contain an SR or that one of the heaviest packs in another box will necessarily contain an SR.
Only a limited number of SR cards were observed in this test, so another booster box could produce a different result.
AR Pack Weight
Several AR cards appeared toward the heavier end of the measured range.
Multiple AR results were found at approximately 8.62g or above.
However, the same weight range also contained SR and RR cards.
This means that although AR cards tended to appear among heavier packs in this booster box, there was no weight range unique to AR.
Surface treatment may contribute slightly to card weight, but differences in the foil wrapper and the other cards inside the pack can cause final pack weights to overlap.
Based on this dataset, AR packs could not be accurately identified using weight alone.
RR Pack Weight
RR cards were mainly found between approximately 8.59g and 8.64g.
Some RR packs were lighter than the AR packs, while others appeared very close to both AR and SR results.
The overlap was particularly noticeable around 8.63g–8.64g.
As a result, even though RR cards tended to appear toward the heavier half of the distribution, they could not be reliably distinguished from SR or AR packs using weight alone.
Differences of only 0.01g may also be affected by the wrapper, individual cards, manufacturing variation, and the resolution of the scale.
R Pack Weight
R cards were mainly distributed from around the lightest 8.53g packs through the middle of the overall range.
They generally appeared lighter than the SR, AR, and RR cards in this booster box.
However, the ranges were not completely separated.
Some packs with similar weights produced higher-rarity results.
Therefore, a relatively light pack cannot automatically be assumed to contain only an R or standard card configuration.
The result from this one booster box also cannot be assumed to apply to another box.
Results by Weight Range
The opening results can be grouped into three approximate weight ranges.
✅8.53g–8.56g: Mainly R and standard pack configurations
The lighter end of this booster box mainly produced R cards and standard results.
However, this observation applies only to the booster box measured here.
✅8.57g–8.61g: R, RR, and AR results overlapped
Several different rarity levels appeared within this range.
There was no clear boundary where one rarity could be separated from another using pack weight.
✅8.62g–8.66g: SR, AR, and RR appeared
The heavier end of the booster box contained multiple higher-rarity results.
However, SR, AR, and RR all appeared within similar weights.
A heavy pack therefore did not reveal which rarity was inside.
Does the Weight Distribution Change Between Booster Boxes?
This was the most important part of the retest.
I previously measured another booster box of The Glory of Team Rocket.

The first test produced results including:
- SAR: 8.68g
- AR: up to 8.73g
- RR: up to 8.72g
In contrast, the heaviest pack in this second booster box weighed only 8.66g.
This means that the overall distribution of the second box was shifted noticeably lower than the first.
Several factors could potentially contribute to this difference.
- Different production batches
- Different shipping or production periods
- Variation in foil wrappers
- Printing and card-cutting differences
- Temperature and humidity
- Scale placement or measuring environment
With only two booster boxes tested, it is not possible to identify the exact cause of the difference.
However, this comparison demonstrates something important:
A weight observed in one booster box cannot simply be treated as a universal reference for another booster box of the same product.
Comparing the First and Second Tests
The two booster-box tests can be summarized as follows.

Both booster boxes showed some tendency for higher-rarity cards to appear in heavier packs.
However, the actual weights and maximum pack weights were different.
This means that knowing a higher-rarity card appeared at a particular weight in one box does not allow the same measurement to be reliably applied to another box.
Can The Glory of Team Rocket Packs Be Weighed to Identify Rarity?
In this second booster box, SR, AR, and RR cards tended to appear among relatively heavier packs.
However, the complete dataset also showed:
- SR, AR, and RR weight ranges overlapped
- Several rarities appeared around 8.63g–8.64g
- The first and second booster boxes had different overall weight ranges
- The heaviest pack changed from 8.73g in the first test to 8.66g in the second
- Multiple manufacturing and environmental factors may affect total pack weight
Based on these results, pack weight showed some tendencies within this booster box, but it could not accurately distinguish SR, AR, RR, and R packs.
More importantly, the comparison with the first test shows that even the overall weight distribution can change between booster boxes of the same product.
The measurements published here should be viewed as data collected after fully opening a booster box, not as weight thresholds for selecting “hit packs.”
Summary of the Second The Glory of Team Rocket Test
After weighing and opening another 30-pack booster box, the main results were:
- The overall measured range was 8.53g–8.66g
- The SR appeared at 8.64g
- Several AR cards appeared around 8.62g or above
- RR cards mainly appeared around 8.59g–8.64g
- SR, AR, and RR weight ranges overlapped
- The heaviest pack in this box was 8.66g
- The first test reached 8.73g
- The same product produced different overall weight distributions between booster boxes
- Pack weight alone could not accurately identify rarity
Higher-rarity cards again tended to appear toward the heavier side of the distribution.
However, the individual rarity ranges overlapped substantially.
More importantly, the measurements were different from my first booster-box test of the same product.
This suggests that booster-box or production-batch variation can be significant enough that measurements from one test should not be treated as fixed standards for another box.
This is the sixth pack-weight dataset published on the English version of tekemero.com.
It is also the first English test in this series where I have measured a second booster box of a product that had already been tested.
That makes this comparison particularly useful for examining not only rarity overlap, but also whether pack-weight patterns can actually be reproduced between different booster boxes.
I will continue collecting data from additional products and repeat tests when possible to see how much variation exists between boxes.
